Keys to Learning Golf

Keys to Learning Golf

  1. Start small and slow, and build size and speed.
  2. If it feels natural at first, it’s wrong!
  3. Hit the ball as far as you can- That is what Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods was taught from the very beginning!
  4. Aim the club first, then your body
  5. Plane and simple- Clubshaft should travel on an inclined plane. The shaft is like the roof of a house, not a wall!  The clubshaft should never be vertical unless you’re taking your grip or it’s sitting in your bag! The shaft should start at an angle, be swung half way back and maintain its angle and through half way and maintain it’s angle.
  6. Be in good shape to play you best. Goal to play without pain!
  7. Know your swing system- everyone’s body and mind are different, so are your golf swings!
  8. Learn proper mechanics before feel. Learn motion from small to big or from the green back to the tee.
  9. Balance- “Unbalanced forces are notoriously erratic.” Homer Kelley

10.  Practice feels (conscious mind) and play in pictures (subconscious)

11.  Practice with purpose. If you can’t measure it, you can’t train it.

12.  Equipment should compliment your game, not complicates it.

13.  Take your time, step behind to find your line every time! Every shot is different and golfers need to develop the habit of thinking before you swing! You must set your grip, stance line and plane line on every shot.
